One can run IE4 on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 and make it use the modern browsing engine. 1. Download IE4 from here: web.archive.org/web/20150726203056/http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/browsers.evolt.org/browsers/ie/win32/standalone/ie401_nt.zip2. Rename or delete the files dispex.dll, jscript.dll, mshtml.dll, urlmon.dll 3. Make it to run under Win XP SP3 compat mode. 4. On Windows 10 one possibly would need to enable mshtml (I am not sure). Voila, you have a modern browser looking like IE4. An executable from IE6 will also work (it has a better icon, there is no other difference). But shdocvw.dll should stay from IE4. The only glitch so far is that the address bar does not work (for input).  |

This is great, but the address bar not showing is a bit of a downside. I'm going to try Quero (third party address bar)on it and see if it works on it.
EDIT: I can't replicate this on my machine. I think one of my Explorer add-ons is conflicting.

The address bar is showing but when you enter the address, a backslash "\" is attached to the end, and so a message appears that the address is incorrect. Restoring the files back seems to have no effect now - IE4 is stuck in this state now, but that's not a problem. |

With windows 7 it just crashed IE 4 on 7 is just flat out broken, the toolbar doesn't even load. To get IE 4 to stop crashing on load, you have to use the CPL and change the home site to DuckDuckGo. (Google Doesn't work on IE4, just crashes.) Well, I guess I have to keep dreaming for a Modern browser that looks exactly like IE5.  |

I also use this skin, but it's the IE 8 Aero theme, and all icons have no labels. I think if you have decent photoshop/GIMP skills you can either add text in or remove it on the pictures used for the icon(s) that you want. Pictures in [USERCHROME DIRECTORY]\image. |

Yes, that can be an option, but I can't make a new toolbar for the address bar only. You can just remove EVERYTHING from the address bar toolbar using the customize function in Firefox. It really isn't that hard to do. |

I don't think you can modify Firefox that well using extensions, you may need some userchrome or usercontent modifications. But it's worth a try. Edit: Plus Palemoon is based on extremely old Firefox code, so it's probably not going to work, similar to trying to install a Windows 7 login screen mod on Windows 10. |
