Hello, I have recently become aware of this forum and as many of us I have been searching for years for a classic theme which can be used in Windows 10. But after the death of Neiio nearly two years ago, who published regularly classic themes at deviantart.com, no one else continued his work and created a classic theme. Well, there are quite a few designers at deviantart.com, but just publishing these ugly, 'modern' dark themes.... So last December I have written to some of them asking for a classic theme and got two responses: 1) Niivu created a design, but it is just usable at 100% dpi: www.deviantart.com/niivu/art/ClassiX-7755436652) A user called cleodesktop, located in East Asia, offered to create a theme in exchange for some bucks. The version made by cleodesktop was already quite good, nevertheless I made some changes using msstyleEditorX64 and would like to modify more things, but he no longer responses my mails. That's why I am publishing the theme here and asking for your support. You can download the theme at github.com/malvinas2/ClassicThemeForWindows10. It is available for Windows 10 - March 2017, September 2017, April 2018 and October 2018 and Windows 09-2019 and size is approx. 12 MB. My questions are summarized at (EDIT: content already deleted by imgur.com) Maybe anyone has got some ideas how to improve the theme .... Greetings, malvinas2

I moved it to the "Visual styles" section because it is not about Windows Classic theme but about a theme which imitates Windows Classic.

What is the practical consequences of the differences between a 'Windows Classic Theme' and a Visual Style 'imitating Windows Classic' ? From the user's view the result should be the same: And together with Classic Shell the presented 'Visual Style' offered in this thread gives an easy opportunity to get back a reasonable Interface one can work with. Just the taskbar is still missing (I don't consider SiB a viable solution). (BTW: Is the classic theme in Windows 7 still a classic theme? If I remember correctly it just uses a *.theme-file, not a msstyle-file)

There is a lot of practical consequences. For instance, the look of the toolbars and the window control buttons: Also, easily customized colors and window metrics, which are stored in the registry. Also, the only way to have subpixel anti-aliasing in the taskbar is by using WinClassic. This forum is mainly dedicated to using the Windows Classic theme under Win 8.x and Win 10.

Good evening, I've been looking for a classic theme for windows 10. There is now a definitive solution? I have heard of a theme, "classic theme by neiio" but it is nowhere to be found. My goal is only one: the graphical aspect of the taskbar and windows. Stop. I want taskbar greylight and windows explorer grey and blue. A solution?

What is the practical consequences of the differences between a 'Windows Classic Theme' and a Visual Style 'imitating Windows Classic' ? From the user's view the result should be the same: And together with Classic Shell the presented 'Visual Style' offered in this thread gives an easy opportunity to get back a reasonable Interface one can work with. Just the taskbar is still missing (I don't consider SiB a viable solution). (BTW: Is the classic theme in Windows 7 still a classic theme? If I remember correctly it just uses a *.theme-file, not a msstyle-file) A lot: - Your Visual Style has the same style as the Classic Theme but definitely isn't visually the same. It looks a bit clunky compared to real Classic Theme.
- Classic Theme isn't a visual style. In Windows 7 the visual style only disables theming. Any version of Windows based on the NT Core without theming will display the classic theme. So with real Classic Theme no GPU rendering is utilized. This is one of the downsides
- With a real Classic Theme, ALL UI colors are customizable. Literally anything you can see, you can customize.
- A real Classic Theme requires a crazy amount of problem solving. Windows 10 isn't built to be used with Classic Theme (even though at it's core it's built on top of it). Many things like UWP break and we have to keep finding newer solutions to problems.
Regarding the user friendliness: You're totally right. A visual style is sooo much easier for end users to apply. But end users can just go to the topic "Visual Styles" right?
Our forum topic "Classic Theme General" is a place to discuss real Classic Theme. We know visual styles exist but we don't like them because they're not 'the real thing'.
