You have to edit String Table #4 of shell32.dll.mui Well, for some odd reason, whenever I try to view the contents of shell32.dll.mui, I get this error. If I try to open it from Resource Hacker's file picker, it won't show up in the list. Could this be caused by 7TSP replacing shell32.dll.mui?
View AttachmentThat is because Resource Hacker is a 32-bit application, and if you open system32 folder, in reality it will actually open syswow64 folder. What you have to do, is either copy it to the desktop (recommended option, as no issues with permissions will be encountered), or when at the "Windows" folder, type in the filename bar "sysnative", then it will enter the true system32 folder, from there you can continue to go wherever you need to go and open that file.

This Windhawk mod fixes this problem.

Booting Linux or a WinPE is an overkill solution for some permission issues, which can be resolved anyways by taking ownership of the file beforehand and giving yourself permissions (even while you're in Resource Hacker). If the file is in use, Resource Hacker will either save it anyways, or fail to save it, from where you can just rename the file in use then paste in the new one, and delete the old one after a reboot.

View AttachmentDid you copy the file to yor desktop? You cannot modify a file directly from any folder inside the Windows directory (or sometimes the file won't even open at all, like in this case). Thanks, now my winver looks nice ^w^
I also found a way to fix some dialogs having smooth text when you have your font smoothing set to Standard like in XP, most notably the run one, because it turns out their strings were stored in the same file and were using Segoe UI for some reason instead of the default font, because standard font smoothing only smoothes out texts that are big enough.
If any of you want to fix that, you'll have to replace "FONT 9, "Segoe UI"" with "FONT 8, "MS Shell Dlg"", which is usually on line 5 of dialogs #1003, 1005, 1011, 1140, 16896-16991, 34659, and 34669 of the same file (shell32.dll.mui).

I mean if there exists a volume or network applet for taskbar tray that works. Or how do i open the volume control from a shortcut? The same gows for network configuration. Windows explorer is so buggy that i have switched to WinXShell and retrobar. It uses less resources and works however volume conteol and network settings are not working tm

Since you are using an alternative shell, you can use 3RVX and PE Network Manager for the network and volume.

Got a very specific problem. Ive got a Windows 7 theme, and im wanting to use the Ribbon Interface for Explorer, everything on it is perfectly put together except 2 things, one is the Settings icon for opening Control Panel, and the other is this weird pixelated image of what I think is a sharing thing. I'm wanting to switch the Settings icon to Control Panel, and have the Navigation Icon like Windows 8's. I originally thought it was a Imageres.dll issue, but Windows 7's and 8's are very similar and they both use the same resource id. Does anyone know how to relink icons? Also, I tried switching to Windows 8's UI Ribbon to fix it, and it wouldnt either load the Ribbon interface or it wouldnt keep the Aero style and switch it to 8's. I appriciate any help, thanks!! ^u^

Is there a way to get the server ctrl alt break cmd login to windows 24 h2 non server variants? Yes, you need to rename Windows.UI.Logon.dll present in System32.
