So after seeing some DLLs of VMware and stuff I found out how to modify the GUI of VMware. Well, surprisingly it's a lot easier than I initially thought. The entire UI seems to be stored in vmapputil.dll. I took out VMware 10's vmware.exe and that DLL, replaced 15's icons with them in Resource Hacker, and tada, I got something. Not complete of course. You can notice the My Computer and Home tab icon are not the right ones. This is because I blindly replaced them. I really hope I can get rid of that ugly white bar on the top, it would be awesome, since I don't like it.

The Aero gradient still exists in the VMware EXE, and there's a seemingly invalid PNGSET resource with the same ID as the PNG that has the Aero gradient. Its contents are literally just "d}". Perhaps if we were to make this PNGSET resource valid, we could restore the Aero gradient on the toolbar seen in VMware 14 and before?

Here's some icons I pulled from VMWare 2 awhile ago. Not sure if anyone wants em, but I'll attached 'em to this post. Attachments:VMWare Icons.7z (167.41 KB)

The same PNGSET resource is invalid in VMware 14.1.8 as well, so that wouldn't help.

VMWare 14 with VMWare 7 icons (at least play, stop, pause and reset - I was too lazy to find all the right icon numbers)
Here is the file from VMWare Workstation 7:

Some time ago I imagined this but making the icons resemble Windows 11's Fluent design.
