cooky560: finally got this working, but the system runs slowly now, help? Apr 17, 2017 6:43:41 GMT -8
Splitwirez: Which method did you use to enable it? And what Explorer are you using? Apr 17, 2017 6:49:40 GMT -8
cooky560: the standard win8 explorer and the task shedular method Apr 17, 2017 7:18:01 GMT -8

Splitwirez: Oh...well whenever I use it, I tend to go for ClassicTheme.exe directly, and on my Windows 8 setup, performance is like this: Apr 17, 2017 8:21:28 GMT -8
Splitwirez: GOTTA GO FAST Apr 17, 2017 8:21:33 GMT -8 *
Splitwirez: (Except it actually was crazy fast, and not sarcastically so O.O ) Apr 17, 2017 8:23:27 GMT -8
cooky560: it works fine if I run it after boot, but not if I launch it as part of user init Apr 17, 2017 9:09:11 GMT -8
cooky560: meaning I get explorer looking modern but other apps looking classic, or I take a performance hit Apr 17, 2017 9:09:49 GMT -8
Splitwirez: I've always just run it manually after logging in, then restarted explorer... Apr 17, 2017 12:05:20 GMT -8
cooky560: that seems like a plan Apr 17, 2017 13:01:20 GMT -8
R.O.B.: I've had this problem before. The only solution I know of is to set everything up normally with scheduled tasks, and then restart Explorer. It's actually not so bad if you have a batch file that restarts Explorer that you can access easilly. Apr 17, 2017 14:31:37 GMT -8
R.O.B.: Like, you can have a shortcut to said batch file on your Desktop/Start Menu/Taskbar/Quick Launch/etc. Apr 17, 2017 14:32:17 GMT -8 *
cooky560: hmm, I might just put the lot into a batch file, rather than task scheduling, and run it at load Apr 17, 2017 14:38:56 GMT -8
R.O.B.: You could do that, but then you'd have to worry about other applications that start with your system not using the classic theme. I'd recommend using scheduled tasks for this purpouse, as they will run sooner than most (if not all) programs at logon. Apr 17, 2017 16:07:53 GMT -8 *
cooky560: it's a shame that MS weds so much to dwm.exe or this would be far simpler. It DOES explain why they don't want people using the classic theme though, they are lazy buggers ;) Apr 17, 2017 21:31:46 GMT -8
Spitfire_x86: I think that MS "removed" the classic theme from Win 8 and 10 only because they couldn't get the new features to work without DWM :P Apr 21, 2017 3:07:34 GMT -8
cooky560: possibly, though I suspect that it's also a lot to do with forcing the new "ideas" on poor desktop users Apr 25, 2017 12:25:09 GMT -8
cooky560: after all in Windows 7 before metro was a thing, it was possible to enable classic mode Apr 26, 2017 5:47:09 GMT -8
Splitwirez: Actually it was so they (and other developers) wouldn't have to. They said so. Apr 26, 2017 12:06:50 GMT -8
