I've always been a fan of all the little customization options possible with the Classic themes, notably the 98 PLUS themes. However, there is an issue with ClassicShell and OpenShell when using these themes. The available 9x style Start Buttons all have a solid grey background which looks fine with default colors but looks painfully off when the taskbar color isn't grey.
I fixed this by simply removing the grey elements and making the borders transparent. This'll result in the following (correct) effect:
And ofcourse with the regular colors it'll work fine too.
I've attached the Start Button in the attachments to avoid compression artifacts from image hosting services.
P.S. if anyone is equally in love with the 98 PLUS themes I could consider remaking the correct Start Buttons as the originals in W98 have a different font for the Start text.
ihatemetro: Both of those are dangerous to modify. I think you may have messed up the explorer context menus in shell32.dll.mui (they are stored there) and comdlg32.dll.mui could have stored some startup stuff. to run shell:startup. I did modify explorer.exe.mui,

ihatemetro: but it didn't do much and actually still worked fine (It was for taskbar context menu). Weird that 8.1 can't take shell32.dll.mui modifications.

ihatemetro: Scamdisk Windows 7 can be installed on GPT if you have CSM enabled, that's basically the only way to install Windows 7 on GPT and UEFI. There is another way without turning on CSM, but that involves modifying Windows 7 to remove the VGA drivers

ihatemetro: Scamdisk GPT disks and partitions can be viewed back as far back as Vista. Just make sure that your installation media is GPT and bootable via UEFI as well, or using DISM. Back in the day I have also installed Windows 7 without CSM and I had to find out
