In File Explorer windows, I'm missing the + node icons next to items in the left "Folder" pane when using SCT. The + node icons work in other areas of Windows, for example the Resistry, which is GREAT! Windows 7 left Explorer pane: Windows 10 SCT left Explorer pane: Any way to get the + node icons back? The pane works normally, but the + node icons are invisible. Some Windows 10 questions not related to SCT: - In the Win10 left Explorer pane, for some reason it shows items from My Computer under Desktop, so they appear twice. In the above example, drive E: and P:. That doesn't happen in Windows 7. Any way to make these extra items disappear? I only want them to show up under "Computer" like Windows 7. - This is a VPS. Notice the "C on LAPTOP" etc.? Those are drives that are shared with the VPS from the connecting machine. Only "C" is local (LAPTOP's hard drive). The other drives are actually mapped network drives on LAPTOP to other computers on my home P2P network. In a Windows 7 VPS, opening up Explorer is instantaneous, and all of these mapped drives appear right away. On a Windows 10 VPS, Explorer opens "slow" because it looks like it physically "checks" every one of these "LAPTOP" resources EVERY TIME "COMPUTER" IS ACCESSED. It's not even every time Explorer is opened... if I double click on the local C hard drive for example, then browse back up to the "Computer" root, it once again takes a few seconds to load each "LAPTOP" resource. (Presumably because it's checking that they are accessible?) This also slows done some applications, such as WinRAR. I actually have MORE mapped network drives, but I had to turn them off because it slowed down Explorer so much, adding more time to "check" them every time "Computer" was browsed to. I have so far have not been able to find anything with regard to some cache setting or something that may make this behave like it does on a Windows 7 VPS, so I'm not sure if it's anything I can do anything about. If anyone is familiar with this issue and has a solution, I'd really like to hear it! The first issue is not actually related to SCT. It’s rather just an issue with Classic Theme in general. I think it’s an option in Open-Shell Explorer but you would have to check yourself. The other issues: Drives showing up twice - This can be fixed using Winaero Tweaker The VPS issue - There’s probably no way to do this except using a different file browser than explorer. This is just hardcoded into explorer and can’t be changed.

I use Winaero Tweaker. I went to start it up, and, nothing. Won't start up at all, won't create any Event Log.
It ran before with no problems, but I can't remember the last time I ran it, and have no idea what is different on the system now to cause the problem. I've now spent 2 hours on this and have no idea what's wrong. There's no place to go for support for Winaero Tweaker.
I have no problems like this on Windows 7. Windows 10 so far has been a complete nightmare. I have hardly gotten anything done due to how problematic it is. This is insane. I have absolutely no idea what's wrong or where to look. I guess I have to consider this VPS a bust now, since it's possible for programs to suddenly stop working leaving the user with no idea why.
I f*****g hate Windows 10.

It took me hours to figure out, but I solved the problem. It was due to my own incompetence. I apologize for my insane ranting. I had used a reg file to add "Take Ownership" to the context menus. It didn't work for exe files, so I modified the reg file to include exefile under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, and I used HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\runas, since that what was used for the other items (*, Directory, and Drive). The other items don't have "runas" by default, but exefile does, and it HAS to be there or it breaks "Run as administrator". Winaero Tweaker uses "Run as administrator", so when I was trying to run it, it was actually doing "Take Ownership" instead, which appeared to do nothing. Anyways... Winaero Tweaker gets rid of those extra icons by disabling "Removable Drives" for "Navigation Pane - Default Items". Windows 7 doesn't have "Removeable Drives" for this, at least mine doesn't. You were correct about the + nodes, that has nothing to so with SCT, but the .msstyles classic theme. It's either an issue with the theme I'm using, or it's not possible to get the + nodes to appear in any .msstyles theme. I reported it as an issue on Github. I did check Open-Shell Explorer, and I don't see anything under the Navigation Pane that seems to have anything to do with the + node icons:

As I said I wasn't 100% sure about the + nodes. Glad to know you've figured out your issues. About the + nodes and Open-Shell: it was just a thought that came into my head. Open-Shell has many of these small detail settings so that's the go-to place for stuff like that.

I looked into the issue with the Explorer Navigation Pane nodes, and it does appear to be releated to Classic Theme along with SCT. If I disable SCT, then the Navigation Pane nodes appear using the Malvinas2 Classic Theme: But as soon as I enable SCT and restart Explorer, the Navigation Pane nodes disappear:

I am only giving support for SCT when it is used with a vanilla Windows theme. If you use any third party aerolight/uxpatcher based themes you're on your own. I would suggest contacting the author of that theme to fix the issue because SCT is just actual classic theme and it should work with it.

The classic theme had the buttons removed, that's why there are no plus buttons. You can easily get them back by switching from the "XP Style" navigation pane to the "Vista style" one.

You mean in Open-Shell? I tried that... it didn't work. (Switched to Vista Style, restarted Explorer, tried rebooting, still didn't work.)
Maybe I'll try a different classic theme. It's not a big deal, just a minor annoyance.

I haven't really found another classic theme that looks as "correct" as the Malvinas one, so I guess this will have to remain an unfixable quirk. Too bad it isn't something simple that wouldn't require a lot of time and/or work to fix.

ok installed on 1803 .
Taskbar buggy with black.(with open shell , and fully black without) Explorer buggy on top with no button . Settings doesn't work anymore. Right click on taskbar are buggy Right click doesn't work anymore and make explore crash on explorer.
Disable button did nothing. Restart explore did nothing. At launch, need to activate again the classic theme. Personalize(classic) doesn't work too. (cannot load page.)

But SCT should start ApplicationFrameHost itself anyway? I was talking about the info on page 22 of this thread, which mentioned a batch file. I never even knew the private alpha had a batch file. Also, the non-private alphas I'm pretty sure don't start ApplicationFrameHost.

Hello, This application seems to assume that I have an application named "SCT.exe" installed at C:\SCT, which I do not have. If you could link me to that, that would be much appriciated! Image of error attached

Image of error attached This is a bug. Cooy that file “SimpleClassicTheme.exe” into the directory C:\SCT and rename it to SCT.exe

Was really eager to try this project but does not seem to be working at all for me. I downloaded the SimpleClassicTheme.exe, copied/renamed to C:\SCT and followed the Guide in the OP but none of the options in the program seem to be working. When I click enable theme, nothing happens. When I check classic taskbar, nothing happens. I'm running version 1.1.2 of SCT and Windows 10 20H2
