Hello, I am very interested in the 80's. I would like my Windows 10 to look like an operating system from that time. How do I start to change my system to Windows 1 or Windows 2.0? Anyone have any idea to change the look of Windows 10 to some operating system from the 80s? (I am using google translator) It depends if you want to focus on realism or ergonomics. If it is on realism, it seems to me that it exempts a version of MS-DOS executive in the Windows 3.1 resource kit which works properly with Winevdm. Most Windows 1/2 programs work well with WineVDM. In addition, it seems to me that ToastyTech had changed the resources of Windows 1/2 programs to improve their operation on recent systems. There are also many file managers/text editors in semi-graphic mode. For the visual style, either use the classic theme in a "flat" style, or the aerolite with high contrast. I will post link to all of this soon.

@orthodoxwin32 I care about a graphic appearance such as Windows 1 or Windows 2.0 and when it comes to skin, I once created a Windows 1 theme for Windows 10 My biggest problem is that Windows 2.03 programs do not load themes but display the classic theme. This is a common problem with Winevdm. Normally, you must edit the otvdm.ini file in this way : ;EnableVisualStyle=0 ---> EnableVisualStyle=1 ;DisableAero=1 ---> DisableAero=0 Apart from that, what skin do you use for the Windows 1/2 theme ? Finally, here is the link to the of Toastytech ports : toastytech.com/guis/misc.htmlFor some reason Winevdm refuses to open Windows 1.X programs, but correctly opens Windows 2.X programs. Here are also links to many software written for Windows 1/2 : toastytech.com/guis/win1x2x.htmlwww.win3x.org/win3board/viewforum.php?f=91winworldpc.com/library/applications/platform-windowsFor the last two links, you have to search among many software unwritten for Windows 1/2. www.win3x.org/win3board/viewforum.php?f=91

@orthodoxwin32 Thanks for the useful links. Unfortunately, but after changing otvdm.ini, the applications still do not display the Windows 1 theme. I am sending you a file so you can see if I did something wrong. As for Windows 1 themes, this is my original theme which I am still working on and which is not finished yet. When I'm done, I'll put in a screenshot. View AttachmentIndeed, it is necessary to remove them ";" lines 6 and 10. Otherwise, the parameter is considered into a comment line. I post the corrected file. otvdm.ini (3.81 KB)

Thanks for your file, it worked Is it possible to make programs open with the Windows 7 basic style? Because my Windows 1 style is based on basic windows that I enable with BasicThemer2. Indeed, the Basic theme is problematic. I think it is best to report the issue it to the developer of Basicthemer2 ( Ingan121 ). github.com/Ingan121/BasicThemer2/issuesI think that should not be very difficult to correct, because the dialog boxes of the Win16 programs work, it is just the main windows that pose problems (the aerolite_basic visual style is displayed on my screenshot). It also happens that the same problem occurs in a Win32 program (but it is much rarer).

@orthodoxwin32 there may be a problem because I do not know how to submit such an application and besides, I have problems with the English language skills I will report the issue soon. For English, I am not good either (I translate most of the time with Google Translation, then I modify the poorly spelled sentences).

View Attachment@orthodoxwin32 Is it possible to somehow make the system not display icons in the title bar? EDIT: I mean the icons of everything that opens. Which tool do you use to build the visual style ?

I have the impression that the visual style on which you are founded does not contain icons in the title bar. It should therefore be possible. I will look at this in MsstyleEditor when I would have time. For the taskbar, I think PowerPro can almost reproduce the Windows 1/2 icons. I will try to do this soon.

My second problem is that I don't know how to edit the skin to change the menu color to yellow. View AttachmentCan be going to : MenuStyle --> BARBACKGROUND --> FILLCOLORHINT Afterwards, I can't say more because I don't have the visual style in question myself.

The problem is that I don't have your visual style file; I work blind. If you don't want the visual style to be made public, maybe can you send it to me by private message ?

I also advanced on my side. I resolved (probably in the same way as you) the problem of the white zone on the left of the menus, I redid the buttons, and I changed the color of border of the Edit, Listbox, Listview and TreeView to black. I will soon send the visual style.

I'm just wondering what to do to stop the system from displaying icons in the title bar I think you have to look at the visual style on which you founded yourself, it does not seem to display the icons in the title bar. Afterwards, the ideal would be the Basic theme (for example, it is possible to center the title bar), it would be really good that Basicthemer2 supports OTVDM.

Just FYI, I moved this thread to the Visual Styles board since I think it fits a little better there.
Very cool project you got going here! Can't remember ever seeing someone try to mimic the Windows 1.0 look, but I dig it. The 80s were a defining time in computer history, so it's nice to see someone give that era some love.
